A girl’s sporting life

I do two sports: gymnastics and football. I enjoy doing these because they help me keep fit and provide me with activities to do outside of school.

I have been playing football since I was nine-years-old. I play in centre defence and my job is to defend the strikers, and along with this I support my fellow teammates.

I like playing football because I get to socialise with my friends. My dad coaches the team I belong to and he makes it more fun for us during training and matches as he has a good sense of humour.

I have been doing gymnastics since I was four-years-old. I started off in a gym group just for fun and as I progressed I joined a more established club. During this time I have competed in many competitions and I’ve won three gold, two silver and two bronze awards.

I trained for the Northamptonshire county squad and got chosen for it. Five counties competed at the county competition. Northamptonshire won gold. It was one of my proudest moments.

I get a lot out of these sports as it has helped me to gain confidence and meet new people. I think girls should be encouraged to take part in sports because you can develop new skills, keep fit and progress further in the sport if you enjoy it and get support from your coach and teammates.

What is your favorite sport?
