George RR Martin’s Game of Thrones has seemingly taken over TV entertainment over the past few years in the US and UK. The show sits at a 9.5 rating on IMDB as a culmination of over 1 million reviewers who have eagerly expressed why they are fans of the show.Much of the show’s popularity may be attributed to the well-written characters as well as the performances from actors like Kit Harington (Jon Snow), Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister), Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister) and Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen). As Season 7 of the fantasy drama has now come to a close a question surfaces on what may be next for the actors as fans anticipate the release of the final season which aims to be released in fall 2018 or 2019.Peter Dinklage who played the witty and well-spoken Tyrion Lannister has recently starred in an ambitious Sci-fi Mystery film, Rememory, which was released on the 24th of August.
The Plot focuses on the mysterious passing of scientific pioneer Gordon Dunn played by Martin Donovan (Ant Man) who invented a machine which allows individuals to extract and watch back any of their memories. Peter Dinklage’s character Sam Bloom is explained to have had a special relationship with Dunn and chooses to investigate.Dinklage’s Rememory character may be noticeably different from his Game of Thrones counterpart, which aims to allow him to display his range as an actor. The mystery theme throughout the film compliments Dinklage’s character who trades wit and charm in a quest for redemption. The Rememory premise aims to question whether the ability to recall every memory perfectly is too alarming to be used or whether it is the key to helping people.
The other Lannister Brother, Jaime Lannister, played by Nikolaj Coster Waldau has also released a film which portrays him considerably different from his Game of Thrones character. The film Shot Caller which was released on the 18th of August recalls how a successful businessman’s life spirals out of control after being incarcerated for manslaughter while driving under the influence. The audience follows Waldau’s character Jacob; nicknamed Money from his gang affiliates, as he learns what it seemingly takes to survive incarceration.
The character appears complex and meticulous and determined to do anything for his family’s well-being, which may be where the similarities between his Shot Caller and his Game of Thrones Character overlap.
Although both Nikolaj Waldau and Peter Dinklage have featured in over 50 films over their years as actors, Kit Harington and Sophie Turner may be be taking the most advantage of the platform which Game of thrones has granted them.
Kit Harington has 13 acting credits to his name and Sophie Turner has 11 for film and television shows. Both actors are intending to increase this number during Game of Throne’s long interval and aim to push their boundaries instead of being satisfied with typecasting.Kit Harington aims to feature in BBC’s newest mini-series Gunpowder which is set to focus on the plot to blow up Parliament by Guy Fawkes and intends to premiere on the BBC on an unconfirmed date.
Sophie Turner may also be intending to break away from her Game of Thrones persona as she is set to reprise her role as Jean Grey in the X-men franchise. The film X-men: Dark Phoenix aims to be released November 2018 and Sophie Turner is expected to play an integral part in the film.Although Hollywood may be filled with actors who may be type casted as the same character in most of their roles, the stars of Game of Thrones are seemingly stepping out of their comfort zones to try something different and potentially surprise their fans on how much range they have as respected and promising actors.
