It was back in 2011 when the world got its hands on Nintendo’s recently unveiled portable gaming device. This year marked the point when the Japanese company released the Nintendo 3DS, the latest entry to Nintendo’s series of handheld gaming consoles. With the release of the Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo may have set out to surpass the device’s predecessor, the Nintendo DS. After the release of the new console, the Nintendo 3DS continued to garner a following of gamers and regularly release quality portable gaming titles over the years.

Over these years, the Nintendo 3DS has seen a range of first party games, including an array of quality titles from industry developers and publishers alike. One such developer goes by the name of Capcom, another Japanese based company whose most recognisable titles may include the Mega Man and the Street Fighter franchises. However, there is one series which may be unfamiliar to some, yet it might still captivate the interest of gamer’s worldwide with each release. This is the Phoenix Wright series, a collection of games which centre around the court of law and prominently feature the titular lawyer, Phoenix Wright. The character of Phoenix Wright may have established himself as Capcom’s scrupulous lawyer with an eye for detail. Capcom’s newest lead character, Phoenix Wright, saw his debut in 2001 with the DS game “Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney”; the success of Phoenix’s debut resulted in several sequels and spin offs to the series.

With the Phoenix Wright series, Capcom aims to put gamers in the shoes of their meticulous case-solving lawyer. In allowing gamers to experience the world of law and order first hand, Phoenix Wright may engage gamers in its world as they decipher complex cases. These cases often require thorough investigation, puzzle solving and the ability to question witnesses as they uncover the truth behind the mystery. Featured in each game is an engaging visual novel aesthetic, one which may have allowed Capcom to craft a charming series of captivating writing and intrigue. Since the initial debut of Phoenix Wright, Capcom aims continue the series legacy by offering gamers the sixth release in this attorney adventure.

The sixth release in the Phoenix Wright series aims to make its way to Nintendo 3DS consoles this September under the name “Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice”. With this latest release Capcom aims to draw upon the familiar mechanics the series has been known for while simultaneously implementing further innovations to the series. Spirit of Justice aims to feature more enigmatic cases to crack and a new location to complement the continuation of Phoenix Wright’s tale. Capcom aims to make Spirit of Justice a worthy successor to the handheld courtroom puzzler.

As with each of the Phoenix Wright titles, gamers may be required to use their deductive skills and embrace challenging puzzles in order to uncover the truth. These puzzles may require players to assess witness statements, investigating key locations and follow Phoenix Wright  as he takes players on a mysterious adventure where discovering the truth is in the hands of the player. Although, Phoenix Wright is far from alone, he is complemented by an eclectic cast of supporting characters which bring insight and personality to each case the hero undertakes. Whether questioning witnesses or interacting with trusted companions, the story of Phoenix Wright aims to give gamers a big story on a small device as the ace attorney aims to uncover the truth behind each courtroom drama.

Through innovating on a small scale, Capcom may have provided hours of entertainment to gamers on the go. With its colourful characters and distinct art style Capcom aims to improve the experience of mobile gamers by providing them with a thought provoking adventure.  Justice comes in many forms and whether on the daily commute or relaxing at home, Phoenix Wright may be taken anywhere and digested in bite sized chucks of righteousness.

How may the Phoenix Wright series give gamers an engaging title to play on the go?
