Personal devices of the modern world may be evolving constantly; from a computer, to a laptop, to a tablet, to a mobile phone, to smartwatch. It appears that, size may matter, with utmost flexibility of personalisation and stylish design; developed for general or special purpose information technologies. Because of a constant interaction between the user and the device, it may be said that devices are thought to be incorporated by the user to act like a prosthetic, acting as an extension of the user’s mind and/or body; without the need to turn the device on or off, with extended ability to multi-task.

Apple watch – a new edition to Apple’s personal devices – fine built-in functions and simple user interface with design that intends to honour the tradition of precision watch making. “Conceived, designed and developed as a singular product, Apple Watch merges hardware and software which is beyond their time,” said Jony Ive, Apple’s senior Vice President of Design. The Apple Watch introduces a specifically designed and engineered Digital Crown; the name Apple has given to the dial on the side of the watch that provides a new way to scroll, zoom and navigate.

The Digital Crown may be considered as Apple’s revolutionary navigation tool since the iPod Click Wheel and iPhone Multi-Touch. It also serves as the Home button and a convenient way to access Siri. The Retina display features Force Touch on the Apple Watch, a technology that senses the difference between a tap and a press, providing a new way to quickly and easily access relevant controls within apps. The all-new Taptic Engine and a built-in speaker together discreetly enable an entirely new vocabulary of alerts and notifications the user may both hear and feel. The side button may be pressed to access the Friends screen; call friends, send messages, or interact by sending sketches, taps, and even heartbeat.

Taking advantage of its location on the wrist – Apple Watch provides timely information that may be viewed at a glance. Smart replies and dictation may be easy ways to respond quickly to messages, and with Handoff, the user may start a message on Apple Watch and continue on iPhone. Use the built-in speaker and microphone for quick chats, or transfer calls to iPhone for longer conversations, mute an incoming call by covering the Apple Watch with one’s hand. Apps such as Instagram, MLB.com At Bat, Nike+ Running, OpenTable, Shazam, Twitter, WeChat and more may be available on Apple Watch. Apple Watch also introduces comprehensive health and fitness apps that aim to help people lead healthier lives; the three rings of the Activity app show user’s daily progress and help motivate to move more and get some exercise. Among the main watch’s functions may be fitness, texting and paying for things and checking in at airports

The Apple Watch uses Apple’s S1 processor, advertised as “an entire computer architecture on a single chip”. The watch is equipped with a heart rate sensor located underside of the case, to allow the user to monitor heart rate and give more accurate activity tracking. All versions of the Apple Watch have 8 GB of storage. The watch also may feature Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 to pair seamlessly with iPhone. The battery in the 38mm version of the Watch is a lithium-ion model which Apple claims may give up to 18 hours of life. However, it is small compared to the batteries in the Moto 360 and Samsung Gear Live smartwatches. Apple Watch comes with a unique charging system that combines Apple’s MagSafe technology with inductive charging. Apple Watch requires iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 plus running iOS 8.2 or later, which may suggest that Apple Watch is a extension of the iPhone.

Launched in March, on sale now, customers may explore and choose their favorite Apple Watch in the Apple Online Store or through the Apple Store app for iPhone and iPad. Apple Watch Edition is available for try-on at select stores.
