Gingerbread biscotti with almonds and nutmeg, wrapped in shiny film and sealed with a kiss of ribbon. Enormous mugs of indulgent salted caramel hot chocolate, made with full fat milk and plenty of cocoa powder. Roasted nuts and caramelised treats hot from the pan, warming the night air from their little paper bags. Yes, Christmas has really hit the capital and we’re going to enjoy it whilst it’s here. This week we’ll be looking at the very best attractions to get you in the festive spirit, with a focus on many the excellent Christmas parties on offer.
There’s an abundance of venues hosting events in the capital again this year, so it really is a consumer’s market, and we’re sure you’re going to doing plenty of consuming with the excellent events we have this week. Those looking for a public experience can take their pick, however Christmas at Vinopolis has a particular place in our hearts for the exceptional quality and selection of wine that will be available. A good bit of the sauce is, of course, a crucial ingredient for the annual do, so where better to go than a place that lives and breaths wine. Christmas is a time to enjoy yourself, and what better way to do it than to indulge in an extravagant Venetian ball hosted at the venue. With dancing, outstanding drinks and a solid menu, it really should be your first stop for a memorable Christmas bash.
Other public parties that look promising include Christmas at the Fountain Room and Christmas at Fabric. The former is set in a stunning building, includes entertainment and, of course, offers some wonderfully rich culinary delights. Oh, and for an extra £30 pp, your drinks can become unlimited. The latter is something else entirely and will certainly appeal to the young. The legendary Farringdon nightspot is hosting a completely unique event, with a veritable cornucopia of attractions. The music and atmosphere will obviously be strong points but there’s also a surprisingly excellent selection of cocktails. Many of these creations will certainly help to put you in spirit and hearts are guaranteed to be merry when the event closes at 2am.
Elsewhere, the London Eye continues to offer its excellent service. It’s something that’s a little bit different, and is considerably more intimate than the usual affair. The close quarters of each capsule are both atmospheric and intriguing, perfect for smaller workplaces or get-togethers with friends. Of course, if you really want to splash out, the whole thing is available for private hire, and it will certainly create a unique dynamic as different groups board different pods. There are also several nearby restaurants that are included in the package deals, allowing your party to toast the festive season from the skyline, before heading to a hearty meal.
If you’ve got your party all booked up already, there’s still plenty for you to explore this week. Last time we explored some of the best markets, however since then we have discovered the truly excellent Berwick Street market is having a Christmas event. As you would expect from the quirky Soho staple, stalls vary from the standard chocolate truffles to the outlandish: with moonshine candies being a particular highlight. If your Christmas is far from boozy enough already, visitors can even combine different flavours to make their own alcoholic chocolates!
