Youtube sensation Jack Robertson

Jack Robertson, may be known to many as the heart-throb singer who created a web sensation with his cover of Sam Smith’s ‘Writing On The Wall’, now steps into the limelight as a solo artist with the release of his official debut single, ‘Set It Alight’ on July 22. A fan of Sam Smith, Jack casually recorded and published his acoustic version of the song onto his YouTube channel and within a matter of hours it had become noticed, accruing over 100,000 within a day. This seemed to have thrown the musical spotlight onto this talented young singer-songwriter and eventually he was in the studio writing and recording his own material. Proof the internet may provide a global voice to many.

Garnering radio and TV support across the Scotland and important media acclaim (along with fanbase of teens) demand for this talented artist may be at fever pitch. Time for Scotland to export one of it’s hottest musical assets, as Jack Robertson bursts from the Scottish borders onto the world platform.

With what may seem addictive melodies and loops, Jack’s debut solo track, ‘Set It Alight’ which seems to deliver a slice of pop heaven, an addictive track, which skips and weaves hypnotically around Jack’s rich and commanding vocals. Depicting the tale of wanting something which seems irresistibly out of reach, ‘Set It Alight’ aims to be a biographical piece plucked from Jack’s personal jigsaw of life; fuelled by his early musical experiences and inspired by a well-known celebrity.

At 21 years old, Jack Robertson aims to be the singing sensation of Scotland. Well known by north of the border, Jack has aimed to build a loyal fan base, which seems to be growing. Listeners to Forth 1 may know him well for his support for charities such as Cash For Kids and the Kilt Walk. By the age of 12, Jack was performing at the Forth 1 Awards where he shared the stage with Jason Donavan, Sharleen Spiteri, James Blunt, Alisha Dixon and The Stereophonics. A year later Jack won Festival4Stars and was hand-picked by Robin Gibb to sing at the BeeGees 50th Anniversary gig alongside Lulu, Bill Wyman and Beverly Knight.

Jack’s vocals and cutting edge sound seems to have drawn comparisons with Sam Smith and his cover of Sam Smith’s ‘Writing on The Wall’ has received over 100k YouTube views within a few hours leading to an appearance on STV.

It may be challenging living north of the border and yet to have heard of Jack Robertson, his profile within boy band, Rewind, was immense. However, when Jack was brought to the attention of music stalwarts, Julian Close and Ian Curnow of EC2M Music Management, his fortunes seemed to have spiraled to cosmic heights. They recognised Jack’s solo potential and put him in the studio with their newly assembled team of young East London based songwriters, operating under Ian Curnow’s guidance (East 17, Take That, Roxette, Boyzone, SClub — to name a few) — and the rest is history. Jack has penned an album’s worth of material and his debut album aims for release later this year.

“Set It Alight’ is released on Bright Star/Universal on July 22.
