‘Kajaki. The True Story’ is a remarkable story that has been the surprise package in cinemas this December. This war thriller depicts an incident involving a group of soldiers who were confined in a minefield, while stationed at the Kajaki Dam in Afghanistan in 2006. From this day came their extraordinary tales of bravery, selflessness and heroism.
This independent film, with its young British cast, is a triumph for London-based Pukka Films; who partly financed the film through crowd funding. After a challenging shoot schedule, Pukka Films brought the story to cinematic fruition in a matter of months.
The film has collected a media armory of 4 and 5 star reviews: https://storify.com/KajakiMovie/kajaki-in-the-news
Producer and Director, Paul Katis enlisted the musical talents of his daughter Phoebe to provide the sole musical theme song to the film. ‘All Of My Life’ soundtracks the perfectly poignant close to the film and proceeds from the song aim to go in support of Help for Heroes, The Royal British Legion and Walking with the Wounded charities.
As a recently graduated music major and member of the Pukka Films production team, Phoebe comments: “I originally wrote ‘All Of My Life’ back in 2011. After hearing me perform and practice, my dad became fond of the song. It was far from realised, until he had shot the film, that he had intentions to use it over the closing graphic sequence.”
Phoebe continues: “The function of the song is to provide a comforting, cathartic embrace at the end of the film, re-instilling a sense of humanity to the intense experience just witnessed.” The track is the perfect bridge to connect the audience with the real heroes of the incident. “I met many of the real soldiers’ families at the premiere of the film and was, like the rest of the production team, bowled over by their positive response. I am incredibly proud to be part of this unique project.”
Praise for the song:
“This song is the most beautiful thing I’ve heard in a very long time…” Sam Harvey, wife of Jarhead, one of the soldiers depicted in the film.
“A beautiful end to an emotional film” Seb Morgan, Kajaki Supporter, Twitter.
“Waiting patiently for it to be released, she is a very talented lady and the song was perfect for the film” Jo Reader-Reynolds, Kajaki Supporter, Facebook.
The film and song’s arrival in 2014 coincides with the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War and the return of British troops from Afghanistan. As Paul Katis explains: “There has far from been a war movie depicting British soldiers in true events in any challenges since the Second World War. We set out to rectify that with a film that depicts the experiences of soldiers in Afghanistan, as they themselves remember. The film is an honest and genuine retelling of an unbelievable true story that sets your pulse racing. It is also a heartfelt tribute to the young men who give their everything for us.”
‘Kajaki. The True Story’ is out now exclusively at Vue Cinemas and may go onto wider general release on December 12th. The theme song from ‘Kajaki. The True Story, ‘All Of My Life,’ is released via PK Music on Wednesday 10th December 2014 and aims to be available from iTunes and all good digital retailers.
