Biscuiteers open their first hand-iced biscuit boutique in Notting Hill

Slap bang in the heart of Yummy Mummy-ville Notting Hill, the Biscuiteer boutique and cafe sells the celebrated biscuit however it is also home to the Biscuiteers School of Icing, where one may be taught by experts to ice like a pro.

What sets these biscuit experts apart from others in their field is their inspired ‘edible art’ approach: they use undergraduates from the University of Arts as their Umper Lumpers.

“We employ undergraduates from Camberwell Arts College and Saint Martins, which works really well as they can plan their shifts around their course and get to practice their art skills,” says Biscuiteer Cassie Merrick.

“My background is in textiles so we get to use our creative backgrounds in the making of the biscuits,” explains biscuit maker Marion Berger.

Prior to opening the boutique, Biscuiteers was an online-only company. They opened shortly before Halloween, undoubtedly perfect timing for such treats. “We plan around our peaks like Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day,” adds Merrick. “The Royal Wedding went completely crazy. We were delivering biscuits all around the world.”

So what’s the best thing about working in a Willy Wonka style biscuit factory?

“It’s nice to make people happy” proffers Berger. “With every order, the intention is to please people and spread the love.”

Next up on the biscuit frontier: customised edibles for a barrage of brands. “We’ve already started to make 3D biscuits and work with companies like Cartier and Net-A-Porter to create bespoke biscuits. We made a huge gingerbread for the Selfridges’ window and will keep finding ways of challenging the biscuit even more!” says Marion.

It looks like global domination is inevitable for this quintessentially British nibble: one crumb at a time.
