I watched a music video on Youtube the other day and it caught my attention, mainly because it was so simple – a bag floating in the wind, representing ‘music’ flowing through our lives. It was for a band called 12 Limbs. When I discovered that the video was directed and shot by an 12-year-old boy (someone just a few months older than me), I had to find out more. I located Elijah, who lives in the centre of Moscow, who was the creator of this amazing video; here’s his story:
Tell us about yourself
“My name is Elijah, I live in Moscow. I have a lot passions, however, I really like to watch ice hockey. I am keen to attend every game of CSKA Moscow club. This is my favourite team. Rather than watching TV, I usually play XBOX instead. I study at public school in the centre of Moscow in the 6th grade. Every year it’s getting more and more difficult. My classes run from 8:30 a.m. to 2:10 p.m. My favourite subject at school … well … probably physical education.
I love mobile games! Specifically, Critical Ops and Fortnite. I run a Youtube channel with gameplays, it is titled Crazy IOS. I enjoy making editing and graphics. Usually I upload a couple of videos in a week.
How did you get to make a music video?
The fact I shot the clip was random. Dad said let’s make it, because I’d recently purchased a new iPhone. My dad is the lead singer in a band called 12 Limbs, and he needed a video to go with his first song for the band. The initial idea for the video was suggested by Roman, the drummer. We discussed it with all members of the band, they thought that the idea was simple, yet interesting.
It took us two days to shoot the video, about 6 hours in total. We were lucky with the weather, it was sunny and windy on the first day. In fact we’ve lost several bags. They were taken away by the wind or fell into the Moscow river. The second day was spent shooting inside the building. The challenging point was when we had to make the package move downstairs. We tried the fan, however, in fact it all ended up with a simple kick. Of course, a lot more time was spent on editing. My dad and I made 7 versions of the video, and almost every one of them was created from scratch. I edited on my Iphone, without using a PC.
When I shot this clip I was 11, however, on September 27 I become 12 years old. For me, it was my first ever experience in filming like this. It was fun!
Have you ever been to London?
I’ve been to the UK twice with my parents. We spent time mostly in London, however, I’d like to see Stonehendge when I come next time.
Thanks for the questions, enjoy my video.
