Megan Shakespeare and Yasmin Giannini, aged 8
Dear Editor of the Positive:
My friend Megan and I (Yasmin) are writing to you in the hope that you will publish this letter so that everyone can see it and then hopefully assist us.
Christmas is coming soon and we really love this time of the year. Everything is great, from the excitement about presents, letters to Santa and our nativity play. Although the twinkly fairy lights and tinsel really make everywhere look wonderful, we believe maybe Christmas actually used to be more fun, and that our mums and dads used to enjoy it more.
Every year our parents let us play special Christmas CDs and these are really, really brilliant. The songs make us feel happy and we dance around the house in a fantastic mood every time we hear them. Yet, these are all OLD songs that belong to our mums and dads, and we want some new fun music and Christmas that belongs to US!
We’re massive fans of the X Factor, all of our friends watch every episode. While they always reach No. 1 at Christmas, their music could be more exciting and fun, as we want something we can dance around to and be silly. We really want to look forward to a Christmas that gives us new fun music. We want to have our own silly-songs to dance around to each year instead of songs we’re borrowing from mum and dad.
These songs can be more diverse than only jingle bell festive songs, because we do understand that the people may want variety rather than always singing a song about Christmas puddings and holly. There was once a song released when my mum was young, it was called Mr. Blobby, and it made everyone laugh because it was just ridiculous and fun. It was about a pink blancmange man who was smiley and cuddly. It went to No. 1 in the charts at Christmas because Mr. Blobby put a smile on everyone’s face, which is the best Christmas present ever!
So Megan and I say PLEASE GIVE US SOMETHING FUN TO DANCE TO! There are still a couple of months until Christmas is here, so that’s heaps of time for someone to make a fun song for us all. Music has the power to make us smile; let’s get music to make us laugh this Christmas. PLEASE!
What ideas do you have for a cheerful song to get everyone smiling for Christmas time?
