Music Rediscovered

Chart topping icons of 80s music embark on an extraordinary adventure of musical renaissance, as they hand-pick and re-record their favourite personal song of all time, all in one outstanding album of hits –  ‘Re-Discovery’, out 15 October.  Sinitta, Leee John, Junior, Doris Pearson (Five Star), Kiki Dee, Kym Mazelle – are just a few of the names that embark on this album journey of personal re-discovery, choosing not their own hits, but their absolute favourite song ever, re-imagined in their own distinct style.  The brain-child of Mauro Dirago (who’s one of the instrumental pioneers behind globally renowned Elvis and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra album ‘If I Can Dream’), ‘Re-Discovered’ is a concept previously unseen from our 80s icons.

Diving into the album, one of the greatest adrenalin rushes for fans will be to discover which tracks each icon chose and why; here’s a flavour of the delicious pick n mix choices:

Kiki Dee & Carmelo Luggeri: ‘My Love’ originally by Wings, “It’s so nice that the track we both love will be heard on this album again.  Literally a chance to spread my wings.”  Kiki Dee

Sinitta: ‘Paradise’ originally by Sade:  “I chose Paradise because I always loved Sade’s music and style, and I play her non-stop during the summer.” Sinitta

Sinitta: ‘Paradise’ originally by Sade:  “I chose Paradise because I always loved Sade’s music and style, and I play her non-stop during the summer.”

Leee John: ‘Betcha By Golly Wow’ originally by Stylistics “I chose this because it’s beautiful melody which stands the test of time . Sit back let’s remember together the good times, the loving times.  Peace love light,’ Lee John

Junior: ‘Love Is In Need Of Love Today’: “ I’ve loved this song chosen from the first time I ever heard it.  To have the chance to record it for people to hear my interpretation, is incredibly exciting. I do hope you all enjoy it.” Junior

Doris Pearson: ‘Put Your Records On’ originally by Corinne Bailey Rae: ‘Corinne Bailey Rae’s voice on the original is sounds beautiful, and I loved putting my own spin on it. Here’s to long summer days, whatever the month!’  Doris

Other artists on the album include Kym Mazelle, Owen Paul, Wang Chung and Jennie Bellestar Matthias.

“Re-Discovered is a dream come true for all of us artists on the album,” comments Sinitta, “It’s a way for us to relive our favourite song of all time, in our own personal style.  It’s like choosing your favourite chocolate from the box and having enough to share round with everyone.  Wonderful.”

The concept was created by Mauro Dirago, himself a teen artists with PWL, and one of the pioneers behind the globally successful Elvis Presley Royal Philharmonic Orchestra albums.  Together with producer, Yoad Nevo, (Sia, Goldfrapp, The Pet Shop Boys, Bryan Adams, Duran Duran, Sophie Ellis Bextor – to name a few), the pair wanted to create a compilation album with a difference; with tracks that have inspired the stars of the past.  Re-Discovered was born.

“Every track tells a story that we never knew about the stars of the 80s,” comments Mauro, “Their choice of song, and how it’s inspired them, reveals a side to each artists that we wouldn’t normally have seen.  Learning what moves and inspires the music makers themselves, and re-discovering those songs through each icon’s own distinctive style, has been magical.”

To kick things off, Sinitta, Junior and Kym have recorded a special version of The Jackson’s ‘Can You Feel It’, in this 40th anniversary year of the track. ‘It’s all in the lyrics,’ says Sinitta, ‘Can you feel it now, the whole world’s coming together now’….and we are.  After the pandemic months of being apart, there’s a real vibe across the UK that people are learning how to be with each other again.  We wanted to express that in song.’
