They are indeed all about proper soul food. Brothers of West African descent and the founders of WAKIKI, Fuad and Timi Animashaun are keen to offer others the experience of infused flavors Afro-Caribbean food. Presenting WAKIKI, an Afro-Caribbean Food Hub – “Expertly Prepared. Expertly Delivered.”
Ten years ago, Timi was keen to host a family member’s birthday gathering at his home with quality Afro-Caribbean food, however, was challenged to find a catering business for Afro-Caribbean food, which might offer this. After long lengths, he did find a caterer to cater for his event, however, there was a challenge with delivering to his place without a high fee, renting cool boxes without a fee, and a restriction to the items which they were able to prepare along with only accepted cash payments. They were also insistent on collecting in full at the time of food pick up.
This motivated Timi to think, “there has to be a better way.” WAKIKI was born.
His motivation for WAKIKI was to ensure an efficient and quality delivery service, unlimited menu choices, flexible payment options and supplying diverse and easy-to-maintain cool boxes. Timi convinced his brother Fuad if they focused on the points mentioned, they may be able to deliver a new approach to online deliveries of Afro-Caribbean catered, prepped and groceries food to families and individuals who were keen to eat good, tasty, wholesome food in their homes, which either reconnected them to their roots or took them on a new culinary adventure.
WAKIKI’s overriding objective is to create a better experience and convenience for Afro-Caribbean food and home deliveries. As an online hub, WAKIKI carefully selects and curates chefs of high-quality Afro-Caribbean food. The chefs are recommended and then personally vetted by Timi and Fuad before they go through WAKIKI’s onboarding process. WAKIKI presently covers London and all areas within the M25.
WAKIKI introduces the rich and vibrant flavours of Afro-Caribbean food to a mainstream market through its QTIP principle – ‘Quality, Timeliness, Innovation and Professionalism.’
WAKIKI is an Afro-Caribbean food hub which offers 3 different options: Catered Food – customers may choose different food items from up to 3 chefs on the WAKIKI website along with gathering information on the bios of each Chef on WAKIKI’s portal. This offers the customer the ability to find out about the chef’s area of food specialisation, from traditional Ghanaian cuisine to Indo-Nigerian fusion to jerk chicken specialists. Read up on each food item to learn how they have been prepared and what their spice ratings are.
Prepped Food – Already cleaned, cut, marinated and ready for one final step before they are served to eat. Cook, grill (bbq) or sizzle in the oven. The same carefully selected Chefs for catered food have created some of their offerings for those who like to be involved in the cooking process without needing to shop and clean from scratch.
And finally Fresh Groceries – yams, indomie noodles, stock fish, garri, black-eye beans and with many more Afro-Caribbean bestseller grocery items may be purchased from WAKIK’s grocery portal.
