The biggest event in international fashion returns to London, in the form of the WGSN Global Fashion Awards, celebrating this year’s batch of industry-defining individuals who have made progressive advancements in fashion design and retail.
Hosted by founder and director, Lauretta Roberts, and musician and style icon, Kate Nash, the WGSN Global Fashion shortlist party will take place Monday July 22nd and will announce the candidates who are in the running to be honored with global recognition for their contributions to the fashion industry.
The categories include the Avery Dennison Emerging Fashion Brand, the Lycra® Future
Designers Award, Footwear & Accessories Designer, Hall of Fame, Sports/Actiwear Design Team, Sustainable Design Team, Buying Team, Menswear Design Team, Kidswear Team, Best Multi-Channel Retailer, Best Store and many others. The organization acknowledges the wide scope of the fashion industry, with categories dedicated to both student designers and more established talent, as well as collaborative teams, photographers and retail institutions.
Among the nominees are Victoria Beckham, who won the Catrice Womenswear Design Award last year, as she contends for the iSKO Denim Design Team Award with G-Star, Hudson, MiH and A G Jeans. Erdem Moralıoğlu of Erdem, Harrods, Christian Louboutin, Oliver Spencer, PODIUM MARKET, Raf Simons of Dior and Dries Van Noten are a few of the nominees competing in the categories.
Now in its fourth year, the awards will take place on October 30th at the Victoria and Albert Museum. Singer/songwriter Nash will also be judging the ceremony and will be joined by Livia Firth, Laura Bailey and Giles Deacon. The GFAs attract a slew of influential figures from the industry, including models, buying directors and stylists and this year is no exception with the likes of Bip Ling, Rebecca Minkoff and Brooke Jaffe from Bloomingdales, and Eric Jennings from Saks Fifth Avenue all set to be in attendance.
“I’m looking forward to seeing who makes the shortlist,” says Nash. “The GFAs are such an important event on the annual fashion calendar and as soon as the shortlist is announced, the countdown is on until the winners take stage at the V&A.”
“The WGSN and the Global Fashion Awards are all about style, leadership and innovation
and Kate is the perfect ambassador for those values,” says director Roberts. “The shortlisted companies and individuals this year are truly outstanding, and from all fourcorners of the world, so we are very excited for the big reveal on the 22nd.”
The WGSN acts as a leading force in determining the trends and styles that dominate each season. Its influence on the decisions of designers and retail companies as they look to bring fashion to the masses is unlimited. With its insight into the fashion world and what drives success, nominees and winners of the GFAs are seen as the trendsetters to influence the industry.
