One of London’s freshest singer/songwriting music talents, Nina Schofield, has been chosen to be the international voice of World Voice Day 2016; with her song, ‘Restart’ picked by organisers to be the anthem on 16th April. To celebrate, Nina invites children to become her backing singers as they record the anthem with her in London on World Voice Day. Nina may be likely to teach the children how to truly use their voice as a tool to express themselves and be heard, with song being one of the most powerful vocal assets possess.
“Children smile when they sing,” comments Nina, “children gain greater confidence when they’re singing. A child in song is a happy child. That’s why I wanted to use this World Voice Day to give this gift of song back to our younger generation. I was delighted when my song was chosen as the anthem for World Voice Day and I wanted to share this experience with the children of the UK by making them part of it. I want children to use their voices to the max and have fun recording this anthem with me.”
With more children identifying with music more than ever before as it blasts across increased radio and TV stations, Nina wanted to bring the gift of song back into children’s lives, if only for a day, “The song ‘Restart’ is all about taking time out to re-programme our busy lives. ‘Restart’ is about pushing the ‘reset’ button, taking time to assess our lives and improving things so that we [may] all be happier. I think that’s an important life lesson for us to learn from an early age, so I hope my junior choir may take the message of song to heart and carry it with them for a long time to come,” explains Nina.
With a global hit earlier this year with Vintage & Morelli, a No.4 iTunes charting single and nominations for Best Female Artist on both sides of the Atlantic (2014’s Best of British Music Awards and Best Female Vocal Artist in the Hollywood Music in Media Awards 2014), Nina Schofield seems to be one of the UK’s hottest musical properties. In the past her vocals have featured alongside Emma Bunton on the national ad campaign for the Channel 5 show, and her live appearances include the Montreux Jazz Festival (sharing the bill with the likes of The Black Eyed Peas, Jeff Beck, Gnarls Barkley and Lily Allen). Added to which, she co-wrote and co-worked with Oscar, Grammy and Golden Globe winners and nominees with a list of names such as Morrisey’s Richard Niles, Gabrielle Aplin’s Tom Wilding, Usher’s Angelo Valentino and Orbital’s Lloyd Perrin.
As a vocal and instrumental coach to children running alongside her recording career, Nina Schofield may be the perfect ambassador for children on this World Voice Day.
